ACT! 6: How to setup ACT synchronization for a new user
SUMMARY
This article will guide you through the initial setup of a new user in ACT 4/2000(5)/6
SUMMARY OF STEPS:
1. Install ACT! 6 from {cybrdriv}:\Cyber4ms\Programs\ACT6
2. Browse to {cybrdriv}:\Cyber4ms\Programs\Onestep\Silent and Install ACT6_Enhancements.exe
3. Open ACT! for Windows
4. Click on File --> Open
5. Browse to C:\My Documents\Act\Database\Install Copy and open Customer.dbf.
6. Click on "Save a Copy As" from the File menu
7. Choose the option "create an empty copy"; click on the Browse button (it has 3 small dots on it)
8. Create Customer.dbf in C:\My Documents\Act\Database\.
9. Click OK
10. The "My Record" dialog box is now open; fill in the appropriate information fully and correctly. Click OK.
***After the My Record information is filled in and you click OK, do not change the Name, Address, or Company information at any time - This will create a duplicate record on the server.
11. Click File à Close
12. Click File à Open
13. Browse to and open c:\My Documents\Act\Database\Customer.dbf
14. ACT! For Windows is now open with a new database ready for use with CyberForms.
15. Click File --> Synchronize Setup
16. "What Type of Synchronization would you like to perform?" --> Choose "With other users"; click NEXT
17. On the next page labeled "Synchrnization Wizard - What Data?", make sure all 5 boxes are checked; click NEXT
18. Click "New User", name Admin, click OK, then NEXT
19. Choose "Use shared folders"; in the "Send these syncs to:" field, it should read {cybrdriv}:\Cyber4ms\Act\Sync\; in the "All received syncs go:" field, it should read {cybrdriv}:\Cyber4ms\Act\Sync\"LASTNAME"; click NEXT
20. Check "Field Definitions"; click NEXT
21. Make sure "All contacts, all groups" and "All records (this time only)" is checked; click NEXT
22. Chose No for automatic synchronization setup; click NEXT
23. Click Finish, then click Synchronize
ON THE SEVER:
1. Click file --> Synchronize
2. You will be notified that a new user has synchronized.
3. You will be asked to associate it with a new group.
4. Choose the appropriate group, then follow through the synchronization setup for the user.
5. The steps will be the same, except the values for the fields in step 11 will be reversed.
